11 Week Ski Instructor Course

Overview

The ALLTRACKS 11 week ski instructor course is the ideal way to spend a ski season. It will take your skiing to the next level, you will earn recognised ski instructor qualifications and it will give your career break or gap year focus and purpose - whether you want to go on and instruct or just really improve your all mountain skiing. It is not just about the time you spend on the mountain though, our team will ensure you make the most of your time on and off the slopes making your ski instructor training course the experience of a lifetime.

The Training

The highest quality coaching is the cornerstone of the course and you will be trained for all conditions from carving the groomers to deep powder, avalanche skills and moguls. Skiing in small class sizes with others of a similar ability will ensure you improve rapidly.

  • Guaranteed Small Class Sizes (8 Max)
  • 1:1 Sessions
  • Expert & Inspiring Instructors

For the initial few weeks, you will concentrate on your technique in order to build on your strengths and to tackle the weaknesses in your skiing. With the aid of video analysis (which is pretty amusing when it’s not you in front of the camera), you will soon have ironed out any major problems in you technique. Following this, the instruction will concentrate on the CSIA Level 1 syllabus working on the actual drills you will need to perform and practicing the most up to date teaching methods. After the CSIA Level 1, we conduct much of the Avalanche Skills training and backcountry off piste skiing, led by highly qualified and inspiring guides.

After the CSIA Level 1, which is in Week 5 of the course, you can decide whether to go for further qualifications, or concentrate 100% on your own improvement. Regardless of whether you decide to opt for additional exams or not, the second part of the course includes a great deal of skiing more challenging terrain, enjoying the deep powder of the Coast Mountains and steeper, technical descents. With the instructors and guides we have, you will be ready for it.

As ALLTRACKS has been the most popular instructor course in Whistler since we launched, there has been the benefit of having multiple ability groups. This means that for people who have not done a huge amount of skiing, there is no pressure to keep up with others with the feeling that you are holding them back. Similarly, for those of you who arrive already riding to a high standard, you should feel confident that there will be others keen to ski fast and hunt out powder from the very start.

At ALLTRACKS, we refrain from working off an exact schedule in order to make best use of the conditions and client wants/needs. However, most days are split into two distinct sessions. One of them will be a high tempo, high mileage session where you will hit the best conditions available. Feedback will generally come at the end of runs or on the chairlift. The other session follows a more deliberate path, where you will work on drills to improve particular aspects of your technique and concentrate on the ways to take your skiing to the next level. The video cameras will come out and you will receive detailed feedback on how you are doing. You have coaching both morning and afternoon.

Backcountry Training

For many skiers, the ultimate thrill is riding through deep, untouched powder. On the 11 week ski instructor course, the off piste and avalanche safety modules help prepare you for this by preparing your mountain knowledge as your skiing technique improves. On the course, we include:
  • Official Canadian Avalanche Association Avalanche Skills Level 1 (AST 1)

James Valori

"Thank you for my time with ALLTRACKS. The last four months have been some of the best of my life so far. I had a fantastic times and I am confident to say that Alltracks was not only the most professional and friendly provider, but also had the highest standard of accommodation and food. These factors made an invaluable contribution to my time and they are due to the immense amount of effort you put into running the course - I am very grateful. My main aim before I left was to set myself up as a decent skier for life and I am pleased to say I achieved this. It is a great feeling to outski friends who were previously a lot better than me. This was, of course, due to the excellent instruction."

Whistler

Our ski instructor courses are based in Whistler, consistently voted North America’s number 1 resort. There are countless resorts in which you can take a ski instructor course, but for us Whistler is clearly the best option, especially for an extended course. It offers so much more terrain, longer runs, better snow reliability, faster lifts and a more vibrant community. There’s nothing worse than having to ride the same terrain over and over having covered a whole resort in a few days.

Accommodation

We know just how important comfortable, well located accommodation is. On an extended course, we feel that living in a chalet or condo (as opposed to a hostel or hotel) is the best option as it means you really have a place to call home for your 11 weeks.

Alltracks accommodation is well located, close to central Whistler and not in the outlying areas. All have comfortable sitting rooms to relax with TV, DVD etc, well equipped, modern kitchens, free wireless internet and most have hot tubs too.

Course Meals

Delicious & nutritious dinner is essential when you’re skiing hard. Meals on the Alltracks course are sociable occasions where you catch up with others from the course and regale each other with the day’s powder adventures.

Off Slope Activities

We want the time you spend off the slopes to be as much fun as the time when you’re skiing. Our course manager, available 24/7, is on hand to organise whatever you wish and will put together activities each week. You’re welcome to take part in everything, or if you want to do things independently, that is obviously cool too. Whistler is not just a seasonal resort, but an energetic, welcoming and vibrant year round community and therefore has loads going on. From Canada’s best apres ski, concerts, film festivals and other cultural events.
