BRITISH SKIER CROSS
ALLTRACKS is proud to sponsor Max Hardy, a British Skier Cross Athlete, and now the British Senior Indoor Campion. When we began sponsoring Max over the summer he was training hard out on the Swiss glaciers to help prepare for the up and coming season. Although we had confidence in Max's abilty, we're thrilled for him to reach this milestone right at the start of the season - a HUGE well done to Max!
Max will be combining his final year at York University with competing throughout the season both here in the UK and abroad - we look forward to following his progess and obviously wish him every success.
Below is the account of the day in Max's own words:
"What a fantastic day - I'm the GB indoor champion!
I finally took my first win in the British Indoor Ski Cross Series in Milton Keynes this weekend, and just in time. I'd been sitting in 2nd place in the five-event series - behind British Alpine Team member Kenneth Morton - thanks to successive podium finishes in previous rounds. But after a long summer of frustration, things finally went my way, securing me the overall senior title!
Time trials went really well - I set the fastest time by 0.8s, which is a pretty big margin. Having first choice of lane as the top seed was a massive bonus, and was the first way in all my knock-out heats before holding an early lead in the men's final to grab the number one spot on the podium. Winning the senior catagory then pitched me against the winners from the other age groups in an all-out super final and despite a bit of early scrapping with Martin Trotter, I still managed to pick up my second gold of the day.
The points from this long-awaited win put me top of the leaderboard for the first time by just a couple of points, and I picked up a massive trophy for my efforts.
Frankly, I'm delighted and just a little relieved to finally get a win, and a big thank you to my sponsors Alltracks Academy, Extreme and Welove2ski.com for helping out.
The last couple of weeks I've been working with a physio at home in Hampshire to try and work off a niggling injury I've picked up over the summer, and it seems to have done the trick. Now it's back to York to start putting on the extra 10kg of muscle I'm after to give me more of a physical presence in Europe when the season starts. Oh, and a bit of revision for my exams!"
