Revelstoke Instructor Course Diary - Week 6
Ski & Snowboard Instructor Courses
WEEK SIX by RAEFE
After the successful completion of the level one course, Canada’s newest ski and snowboard pros hit the mountain with renewed energy and vigour. After the stress of the preceding week and the bumps and bruises from a very amusing cross-over day we were all keen for a nice relaxing week of free riding and were not left wanting.
The skiers were broken into groups using the scientific method of placing our poles in a heap and the instructors breaking them into two piles. Half the group would spend two days free riding with Brent ‘you get more chicks hucking a back flip then doing snow plough’ and the other half were to do some speed work with Nitzan the Israeli speed machine. The groups would spend two days on each skill and then swap.
The week was incredible and yet again Revelstoke provided the perfect playground for the Alltracks powder hounds. It seems that even after nearly a month and a half spent here there is still so much terrain to explore. The free ride group hit the glades, the bumps and the bowls like skiers possessed. One of the highlights was hiking the sub peak and getting fresh tracks in the South Bowl. The powder up top was incredible and although the oxygen was getting thinner as we reached the sub peak it was well and truly worth every step of the climb. The time spent with Nitzan was tremendously beneficial. The whole group increased their skills at high speed and were carving like dads at a Sunday dinner. The mountain echoed with the sound of the Alltracks team screaming down the groomers and living by the motto ‘every turn is a sign of fear’.
The boarders spent the week doing what boarders do best – snaking skiers’ lines, smashing the glades and hitting every bump, branch, roller, kicker or anything else that would get them airborne. Essentially it was a normal week trying to keep up with Simon as he took them on a magical mystery tour of this winter wonderland.
The week finished with a Sunday trip out to Greely bowl. On arrival everyone set about building a suitable kicker, well everyone except Jonathan. He decided that a throne would be more appropriate and relaxing and after completing his master piece he spent most of the day perched on his rear surveying all that was his. The day well and truly belonged to Aussie Shaun. He proved to be the most nimble in the air and it was a great way to farewell him on his last weekend on the course. The whole course finished the week relaxed and prepared for whatever the instructors had in store for the following week.
